REVIEW
 A synthetic nitrothiazolyl-salicylamide derivative and an antiprotozoal agent. The anti-protozoal activity of nitazoxanide is believed to be due to interference with the pyruvate:ferredoxin oxidoreductase (PFOR) enzyme dependent electron transfer reaction which is essential to anaerobic energy metabolism.
