REVIEW

Butein is a naturally occurring chalconoid found in Toxicodendron vernicifluum (or formerly Rhus verniciflua) and has beeb used as a traditional herbal medicine for its various biological activities. These include antioxidative, aldose reductase, advanced glycation endproducts inhibitory effects, suppression of NH-kappaB mediated inflammation and cancer.and anti-adipogenic effects It is also a sirtuin-activating compound, a chemical compound having an effect on sirtuins, a group of enzymes that use NAD+ to remove acetyl groups from proteins. They are caloric restriction mimetic candidates, molecules able to prevent aging-related diseases like Alzheimer's, diabetes, and obesity.
