REVIEW

Vinblastine is an antimicrotubule drug used to treat certain cancers. Vinblastine was traditionally obtained from the periwinkle plant Vinca rosea, in which it is biosynthesized by the joining of two alkaloids, catharanthine and vindoline. Vinblastine binds to tubulin and inhibits microtubule formation, resulting in disruption of mitotic spindle assembly and arrest of tumor cells in the M phase of the cell cycle.
